Hana Center's Workforce Development department helps community members and unemployed workers find and keep jobs and achieve a livable wage. Our services include job counseling, training, placement, and retention. We also provide referrals to other programs offered by Hana Center that might be beneficial to you and your family, which may include ESL, computer classes, sewing classes, weatherization training, family counseling, citizenship assistance, and applying for public benefits. Our staff are available to assist you in 3 different languages: English, Korean, and Spanish.
To be an active participant in your employment search, you will work with the Job Specialist and Job Developer in a collaborative manner, and engage in an ongoing discussion about your expectations and satisfaction with the services we provide.
Our resource room is a community technology center that consists of four computer laboratories. We hold basic and intermediate level computer classes regularly, including an introduction to the PC, MS Windows, MS Word, the Internet, Excel, Powerpoint, and Email. We also offer workshops on resume writing. We provide a copy machine, fax machine, telephone, and high speed internet connection free of charge for job searching purposes. Please call for class registration dates each quarter.
Hana Center is proud to host regular job fairs for all interested job seekers. We host our job fairs annually. Anywhere from 10 to 20 employers join us to recruit you for jobs in transportation, communications, warehousing, retail, homecare, and much more. Also on site are various Chicago Community Colleges and training institutes ready to provide you with the education and training you need to become a marketable employee. This is a free event to both job seekers and employers. Please bring multiple copies of your resume and cover letter, or sign up for our resume writing workshop before the job fair.
We provide comprehensive job counseling services for those who are looking for specialized trainings, educational options, unemployment compensation information, worker rights information, displaced worker benefits, and social service referrals for those with social barriers to employment retention. We also help you with resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills, and local job market information.
We offer employment workshops to help you better understand the employment process so as to find and maintain better jobs. Employment workshops cover such topics as completing employment applications, resume & cover letter writing, interview skills and mock interviews.
- Our office is open Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m
- Appointments last up to 60 minutes and are scheduled in advance.
- Department staff will call you the day before your appointment to confirm that you will still be able to keep your appointment.
- Missed/late appointments or appointments not cancelled in an appropriate amount of time are a lost opportunity for us to help another client. We ask that you make every effort to keep your scheduled appointment and to arrive on time. We do understand there may be circumstances when you may be unable to keep your appointment. We ask that you give us 24 hours notice of cancellation or to reschedule. If you do not contact us to cancel your appointment, we cannot guarantee that you will be given the next available appointment.
the intake process
- You will meet with the department intake specialist to review documentation and fill out intake forms.
- Attend a program orientation (this is the second appointment).
- Assess your workplace skills, strengths and weaknesses, and identify skill gaps and educational needs to help you become competitive in the labor market.
- Explore career and employment options suited to your readiness, skills, and employment goals. Complete and update resume.
- Job search and prepare for job interviews.
- Follow up appointments are determined pending placement.
